The second outing was much better as far as driver performance at least but the hot and humid conditions kept the FlashBack in the 10.60's though.
Our first pass was a -.008 foul and the next two were a .006 and a .010 with a .000 being a perfect light I was pretty happy with that string!
We then gave a friend a ride down the track...what a hoot that was! First time in a car this quick had her pretty excited for quite awhile I hear ;)

First outing '11

Our first pass of the '11 season were less than stellar to say the least.
A wiring snafu had made the trans-brake inoperable and had the low-side rpm engaged...so, the launch was totally screwed up as the car rolled through the beams and then the engine couldn't see the north side of 5000 rpm heading down the track.
Scott dug out his "implements of destruction" and found the mis-routed wire and we were back on track in no time.
The next two passes were a 10.598 and a 10.589...both at just over 127 mph....about where it should be in the heat when we compared the passes to previous seasons passes. With the 60ft times in the 1.46 to 1.47 range the traction available wasn't spectacular either...a 1.42 to 1.43 is what we consider an average launch number and puts our et's in the 10.39 to 1.42 range.
Fuel costs are going to be killer as it was over 100.00 to fill the truck and 80.00 was the total to top the car off...OUCH.
Should be heading out on the 29th for a few more passes!!

Just about ready....

We should be rolling out the car next week finally...with the scheduling conflicts we had with trying to set a Midwest Open Comp Series this year it kind of took the sails out of my motivation this year but we're about there now.
Some minor paint touch up and some new lettering and we're good to go. We still have plans to et the nitrous kit installed but we'll take our time and get it done right.
Also entered my first IDPA meet (International Defensive Pistol Association)...the accuracy was okay but the speed part needs some work yet.
Also went through the Central Iowa Defensive Training 'Defensive Handgun' course and learned quite abit as far as the who/what/when/where/why/ and how of the ins and outs of the laws and ones responsibilities.

New RollCage....

We've had the car on display at Andersen's Automotive in Independence, IA and since it was there Marshall and crew have been busy updating the rollcage in preperation for the nitrous install later this season.
The new "funny-car" style cage is coming along great! If you're looking to have some work done on your car take it to Marshall and his crew as their attention to detail is fantastic.
The project also included redoing the layout of the fuel system, interior work, and a re-do of the ladder bar front crossmember that has given us fits loading and unloading the car in the past.

What a great day to finish off the 2010 season: temps were in the mid 70's, humidity levels were low, and the air pressure was high...the way things should be!

Corey Herman had a transbrake malfunction that worked out to his advantage on the first qualifying pass of the day...a perfect .000 reaction time was the result of the 'malfunction' and led the field of fourteen (our best turnout in quite some time) and Russ Pearson held the anchor spot.

Close reactions from both finalists meant it was going to be determined by who could hit their index and Craig got it done this run.

A great turnout and great weather was just what the doctor ordered...we couldn't have asked for better conditions! The reaction times during the qualifying passes was brutal...they got lost a little when the racing started with a few exceptions (as the pair in the finals for example)...the racing was close as usual and the track staff did a great job in getting our program off without a hitch even when we had racers in trouble back in the pits.
We hope that Phil Tenney gets his ole Fairlane back in tiptop shape soon as he broke a rear axle during a bracket-race oriented pass and had to bow out of O/C competition before round one was called to the lanes...and we hope that Russ Pearson gets his electrical gremlins sorted out and gets to unleash that very nice Mustang GT of his.
We had quite a few new racers join the fun once again and we hope that they had a good enough time to put us down on their 'To Do List' for 2011 as well. Thanks to the regulars for coming out time and time again...we've got a good series going here and it looks like it's about ready to grow!

It was good to see a few new faces show up as some of the regulars had prior commitments, hopefully the newcomers will be back and the final two races will have more competitors as we've been trying to build the class back up to prior years numbers.

Ryan Ladeberg, Alex Harken, and Mike Allen were the new faces that joined in with regulars Bill Lehman (who was in attendance but with a new car as his regular '68 Mustang was having some head-gasket issues but he rolled in with a sweet little Falcon "Ranchero" to compete with) Mark Weerheim, Corey Herman, and Gene Hinders.

With an odd number of cars the #1 qualifyer (Gene Hinders) would recieve the bye-run for the first round.

Bill had a huge advantage at the start via the .007 reaction time but his pass was too quick off of his index and Jim's 9.48 off of his 9.45 index was the winning pass.

It was good to get back out to track finally for the first round of the Midwest Open Comp Series, the day was a bit hectic as the track had alot on the schedule despite it being billed primarily as a Test&Tune day.

It was definitley a warm and muggy day but everyone had the same conditions to deal with. You could tell it was the first race of the season based on the wide range of reaction times everyone was dealing with...we had a great turnout for the race and hopefully a few others will join the fray at the next event.

Brian Davis was the winner of one of the 25.00 Gift Certificate that Quick Fuel Technology has donated for each one of our five races...we had planned on handing these outto each events #1 Qualifier but being that I (Gene Hinders) was the #1 qualifier and that I am a dealer for and sponsored by QuickFuel I decided that since that was the case we'd put the other eight drivers names into a hat and have the CFR track personel draw one name to recieve the certificate.

Round Two will be June 12th at Cedar Falls Raceway...Hope to see ya there!

The final race of the 2009 Midwest Open Comp Series was held on a gorgeous October day at Cedar Falls Raceway.

We had seven competitors entered for the race and John H. Miller lead the way in qualifying with a near perfect .001 reaction time and anchored by Eric Sloan's -.053 who was having some difficulty with a rolling problem at the start with his car.

The car count was still a little lighter than we were hoping for but the word is getting out once again, for example, first time O/C racer Mike Brandt vowed to return for any and all MWOC events to be held in the 2010 season....once ya run the ProTree it's hard not to come back for more!

Round one had Mike up against the points leader Gene Hinders and although neither one had a particularly good reaction time Gene's slightly better RT was good for the win as Mike brokeout trying to stay ahead. Eric Sloan's starting line woes continued and then ran .006 too fast off of his index as Corey Herman ran a near perfect 10.138 off of his 10.13 index to take the win. Jim Winters Sr returned for some O/C action and took his round one win over Brad Wurtzberger with the reaction time one again being the deciding factor. John Miller had the bye run as the number one qualifier receives that honor and he made an easy coasting pass on his run.

The Semi-Final round had four stout racers matching up with John taking a very close win (.0036) over Gene and Jim taking the win over Corey as Jim was only .007 off of his index and Corey brokeout by .005 trying to take the win.

The Final Round saw John make a uncharacteristic mistake at the start and Jim cruised to a fairly easy win with his 64 Falcon.

At the end of the day the trophies were handed out as well as some prizes for a few of the Top Ten racers, not to mention the cash and awards for the Top Five finishers in the points chase.

Not sure where all the racers are this season but the ones that are showing up are getting it done! Some excellent qualifying shots here in the third race of the season...this was one of the tightest qualified fields to date.
Regular "tree killer" Corey Herman brought up the anchor spot with a decent .052 reaction time in the ever tough ElCamino. Eric Sloan in his first O/C appearance of the '09 season landed in the number four spot with a .048 reaction time in his 86 Mustang. The number three slot was filled by Dan Tebbe in his very sharp 72 Chevelle with a .039 reaction time. Lynne Benendict jumped into the MWOC event and with a reaction time of a .025 put her Mustang in the number two slot. The number one qualifying spot was grabbed by Gene Hinders on the final qualifying pass with a .018 shot at the tree.

Corey Herman and Dan Tebbe got the ball rolling as the first pair out in the thid race of the year. Corey's consistency on the tree paid off as his holeshot played in to win as both cars were 7 thousandths off of their respective indexes.
Lynne Benedict took a somewhat easy path to victory as Eric Sloan had some technical difficulties in his car during the pass and was a full second off of his targeted index....Lynne would have the bye-run in the semis with he win this round.
Number one qualifyer Gene Hinders had the byerun due to an odd number of competitors and ran just abit under the index...a 10.387 off of the 10.40 that he was shooting for.

The semi-final round had Gene Hinders and Corey Herman squaring off yet another time in the classic Ford vs Chevy battle. The holeshot went to Gene in the Ford by a narrow margin and that, coupled with a 10.414 pass off of the 10.40 index was too much for Corey's 10.253 time off of his 10.16 index. Lynne Benedict was really shooting for the tree on her bye-run and a -.008 showed she was tuning in to the ProTree quite nicely, and a foul start on a bye run doesn't hurt a thing...her run of a 10.66 off of her 10.54 index was a bit off so she knew she'd have to hit the tree in the finals.

Well, Lynne did kill the tree in the final round with a .024 reaction that just killed Gene's very bad .111 reaction.....but at the stripe Gene's 10.418 pass off of the 10.40 index was enough for the win by .02 at the finishline as Lynne's Mustang once again hit a 10.66 off of her 10.54 index.

A little light on the turnout as we had some drivers with 'car issues' before qualifying had started. We had some new old-faces join the ranks once again and we had some new new-faces as well.

Round One had the ever tough Corey Herman in his '79 ElCamino take the win over Kari Neshiem's super-clean '03 Mustang with the reaction time being a key in the victory.
Dave Senderhauf and Jason Neshiem put their 89 and 70 Mustangs through the paces with a couple of very close reaction times posted by each driver...Dave was a bit closer to the index at the stripe and took the win despite the slight disadvantage at the start.
Gene Hinders rode the holeshot to the finish for the win in his '79 Fairmont despite Dan Tebbe being closer to his index on that pass in his immaculate 72 Chevelle.

Round Two had Dave Senderhauf recieving the bye due to his being the #1 quailifyer and took a nine second solo trip to the final round.
Gene Hinders and Corey Herman squared off in a very close race as the indexes were 10.38 and 10.45 respectively. Gene took a slight advantage at the start and carried it all the way to the stripe and was slightly closer to the index as well...it's always a close race when the Ford / Chevy pair line up against one another!

The Final Round was a close race as well....Dave Senderhauf took the slight advantage at the start (.031 to .039) but had some tire spin at the hit and lost a little ET...Gene Hinders 60ft wasn't off near as much and Gene's 10.393 pass off of his 10.38 index was good enough to hold off Dave's hard charging Mustang that ran a 9.785 at 141.22 off of his 9.70 index.

Even with a lower than expected car count we did outdraw the 'Headliner" class (the 10.5 outlaw series) so we felt good about our turnaout in comparison!
The racing was as close as ever with margins of victory as close as .0012 at the finish!
The finals were decided by .0047 of a second and I came up on the shortend of that one to a good racer and friend Tim Ketels.
Round one had John Miller from Waterloo's wheelstanding Nova taking the win against West Lafayette, Indiana's own Eric Youngblood.
Another impressive wheelsup win was Tom Fangman from Dundee, Ia in his Chevelle taking out Waterloo's Jim Ketels very nice early-model Camaro.
Next up was the closest race of the day as Dyersville's own Tim Ketels won by a mere .0012 over the ever tough Corey Herman's El Camino out of Minnesota.
The final pair in round one was Gene Hinders (me) out of Hudson, Ia taking the win over Boone, Ia racer Bill Lehman in his vintage 68 Mustang Fastback.
The semi-finals was a squeeker of a win for Gene's Fairmont over John's Nova as both racers ran a 6.94 elapsed time and it was a hole-shot that gave Gene the win.
In the other pairing it was Tim taking the win over Tom as Tom jumped the gun and fouled away any chance of winning.
The final round was determined by .0047 of a second with Tim's holeshot covering Gene's pass and his 6.60 pass off of his 6.56 index held off Gene's 6.47 pass off of his 6.44 index.

2009 Schedule / Rules

We have four events on the schedule for the 2009 season in the Midwest Open Comp Series.
All three races will be held at Cedar Falls Raceway ( www.cfraceway.com ).

Midwest Open Comp Series
Presented By ELIMN8U.COM and MustangCentral.Net

Open Comp class is designed for any year, make, and model car & truck. Dragsters and roadsters prohibited. Door vehicles only.

The Open Comp class will run on an Open Comp format with a 1-tenth (1/10th) breakout.Qualifying Information, Ladder Type, & TreeAll Run, NHRA Sportsman Ladder, Pro .500 Tree, Handicap Start.

The class will be qualified by positive reaction time (r/t) closest to “.000” based on a Pro .500 Tree. “.000” is considered perfect.
Any negative r/t (-.001, -1.231, etc.) will be placed at the bottom of the qualifying ladder, the more negative the r/t is, the farther down the ladder the run will be placed.
For cases in which identical reaction times are made, qualifying position will be based on a first-come first served: the first occuring r/t will be placed #1, the second occurance of said r/t will be placed #2, and so on.

Class will be paired according to qualifying positions, and then advance to eliminations.
The Open Comp class with over 32 cars will be contested on a random (all run) basis until the field reaches 32 or less competitors. At the point in which 32 or less competitors is reached the field will be laddered accordingly. A 32 or less car field is laddered on a sportsman ladder using the final qualifying sheet to determine ladder positions.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Any modifications, vehicle weight, or power adders permitted. Any gear change must occur as a result of an internal function of the transmission or from direct action by the driver.
Pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, etc. shifters prohibited.
Trans-brakes and 2-steps permitted.

RACING AIDS

Delay boxes, cross-over boxes, or any "reaction-time related" electronic bracket racing aids prohibited in this class. Throttle stops and all related throttle-stop type accessories prohibited.

ET LIMITS

The quickest qualifying ET permitted in this class is 8.700. Any qualifying pass quicker than 8.799 will be disqualified and will not be counted.
The slowest qualifying time permitted will be a 15.800 flat.
Competitor will be permitted to re-qualify if additional qualifying rounds are left.
Competition will be regulated under standard IHRA/NHRA "First or Worst" competition policy during qualifying and eliminations.

DEEP STAGING

Deep staging is permitted, however not advocated. If you plan to Deep Stage it is strongly recommended that you boldly display the words DEEP on all four windows, in plain view of the starter. It is always the driver’s responsibility to stage the vehicle prior to the tree being activated. In any event, the driver must be prepared to leave as soon as the final stage light is lit.A competitor with the words DEEP displayed on the window is not necessarily obligated to deep stage. As well, the starter is not necessarily obligated to wait on a driver to deep stage, even if the words DEEP are displayed on the vehicle. All drivers must be prepared to leave as soon as the final stage light is lit.

CLASS & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

It is the participant’s responsibility to familiarize oneself with the safety requirements as found in the current IHRA/NHRA rulebooks.The participant agrees that the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at all times to ensure the safety of participant’s vehicle and to ensure that participant complies with all applicable IHRA/NHRA rules. The participant agrees that participant is in the best position to know about the construction and operation of participant’s vehicle, equipment, and clothing, and whether there has been compliance with all applicable IHRA/NHRA rules.

LANE CHOICE

During qualifying and eliminations, it is the responsibility of the competitors to determine lane choice. If the competitors are unable to establish lane choice, a staging official will make the determination in the manner he/she chooses (i.e., coin flip, random choice, faster car, etc.). We have used the "Best Reaction Time" from the previous round as a way to set lane choice as well.

2008...A Weird Year.

We began the season well enough...running a best of a 10.12 at 131mph with the FlashBack, then the tornadoes and rains hit the area and we were down and out for the better part of three months.
All of our Open Comp events were cancelled due to weather or weather related problems...guess we'll look to next season!

We had a five car field at the June 23rd event with Bill Lehman's 68 Mustang taking the #1 spot with a great .008 Reaction Time.
We're still working on our car at this time, the back's doing abit betterand should be okay for us to make a few passes once the car is done....until then I'll just be organizing the races instead of racing in them.

Slow Start To '07

Wow, I haven't been here to post anything mew for awhile!!
It's been slow going this season as I ran into some back pain that has slowed me down a bit.
The new engine is being worked on up at Midnight Machining...the truck is getting an updated dual exhaust at Anderson's Automotive Service, and our "new" 26 ft enclosed trailer is being updated with some more internal lighting and outside signage atTags-N-More.
We should up and running very soon!!!

Oct 14th Open Comp Results...Final 2006 Event

Despite the cool and windy conditions there were about 80 cars on hand for the day and 9 who decided to try their hand at some ProTree racing.
As the cool weather and sticky race track came together there were alot of personal bests posted throughout the day and the Track Prep-man Kenny 'I Killed Another-One' Heoppner did claim another one as one racer had a transmission bite the dust.
The previous weeks traction capabilities claimed no less than four axles during the event.
Qualifying began with six cars entered and had Corey Herman grabbing the number one slot with a .004 reaction time and that would hold through all three rounds for the top spot. Jay Roeder, Tim Kroneman, and Tom VanTassel jumped in during the second and, or third qualifying sessions to claim the number three, five, and six spots respectively to mix it up with the rest of the field: Ed Stettin (7), David Hensche (9), Eric Sloan (8), Jim Winters Sr (4), and Gene Hinders (2).

Jay put down a great reaction time to end Ed's day of racing to start things off.
The next pair had David's 427 powered Mustang fouling away his chances against Tim's alky powered Pinto.
After that came Eric's win after getting holeshotted by Jim as Eric was able to get closer to his index.
The last pair to run (Corey had a bye-run due to his #1 qualifying spot and ran a great .034 intitiated pass of a 10.16 on his 10.20 index) was Gene surviving a holeshot bound Tom VanTassel pass when Tom missed a gear going down track.

This round of the Midwest Open Comp Series had some of the best series of reaction times ever posted, during qualifying and the race there were a number of great reaction times posted. Even the foul starts were in the -.000's
The opening round began with the 'tree killer' Jim Winters squeezing the tree just abit too much with a -.005 foul start and John Miller nailing it with a .018 and running a 10.751 off of his 10.64 index.
Then it was 'the phenom' Eric Sloan's .035 initiated run of 16.941 off of his 16.87 index that was enough to cover Jay 'Stock/SuperStock' Roeder's 11.342 run off of his 11.25 index after having given Eric a little extra head start.
The last pair had Gene Hinders taking the win with a 10.723 off of his 10.65 index when Dave Gibson had an oh-so-close foul at the start with a -.007 reaction time.
The Semi-Finals had Gene vs Eric and John with the bye-run.Eric just missed it with a -.005 reaction time and his 17.017 would have fell short anyway as Gene ran a 10.726 off of his 10.65 index.
John made a full pass of it on his single and posted a 10.763 off of his 10.64 index with a .074 reaction-time.
The finals would be virtually a heads-up race with Gene's index at 10.64 and John's at a 10.65 index. The reaction time was the clincher in the final round as both drivers ran 10.70's....Gene a 10.708 and John a 10.704...the winning difference was Gene's .024 reaction compared to John's .050 reaction time.
The next event is October 14th at Cedar Falls Raceway...See Ya There!!!!

Robert Tilley opend things up with a win over Eric Sloan as Eric couldn't quite 'hit the number' despite a better reaction time. Gene Hinders was able to stop Jim Rice as he ran closer to his index and had the better reaction.The finals had Robert Tilley taking the win despite his somewhat "off" reaction time as Gene's car fell off the pace.

The turnout for round three and four of the Midwest OpenComp Series was fantastic the weekend of June 18-19 at Cedar Falls Raceway.With well over 100 cars in attendance for the Ford Shootout Weekend we had sixteen entries for the Saturday OpenComp race...Sunday's attendance was about half of that...I don't know if that's because it was Father's Day or if alot of folks just don't want to stick it out for a two day race?Saturday's field was led by the fast and beuatiful 87 T-Bird of Mike Hinsch at a 8.90 and bookended by the equally beautiful but not quite as fast 95 Mustang that belonged to Lori Simpson at a 15.07 index.

Steve Olson and Jeff Biddle began the eliminations with a battle between Mustangs. Jeff's off pace 12.31 on an index of 11.74 was no match for Steve's .067 initiated pass of a 9.91 on his 9.82 index.
Next up was the big-block powered 62 Fairlane of Phil Tenney against new-comer Frank Haaland in his 95 Mustang. Wiley ole Phil was first to the stripe with his 11.16 pass (10.68 index) as Frank had missed his wake-up call at the lights and altough he was closer to his index (14.59 off a 14.39 index) his day was over.
Josh Knudsen was up next with the 2003 MWOC Champion Mark Weerheim in the other lane...what a race that one was! In what had to be the closest race of the day Josh took the win light by running a 9.52 off of his 9.50 index while Mark had an .001 advantage at the lights his 11.62 was too quick for his 11.65 index...took too much stripe at the finish.
Jason Neshiem and his gorgous '70 Mach 1 took out the number one qualifer, Mike Hinsch's very fast T-Bird by running an 11.47 off of his 11.45 index. Mike held a .03 advantage off the line but his 8.97 fell short of his 8.90 index. (A side-note: We had held a driver meeting and voted on allowing Mike to run his sub-9 second car...no one wanted to deny Mike a shot at running after having traveled nearly 300 miles to get here in the first place).
The 460 motivated '72 Pinto driven by Tim Kroneman was our nest round winner as his better reaction time forced Lori Simpson to breakout trying to get the win...a 10.93 pass on a 10.74 index covered the ladies 15.05 pass on her 15.07 index.
The next pair out featured some vintage iron, a '65 Falcon driven by Jim Winters Sr. and a '68 Mustang Fastback piloted by Bill Lehman. Bill came out the victor with a 9.89 pass off his 9.83 index as Jim went red at the start with a -.001 reaction time. His 12.45 pass on his 12.41 would've been hard to beat if the light would've been a green one.
The next pair out featured the the finalists in the MWOC season opener at Tri-State Raceway: Eric Sloan in his 86 Mustang GT and Gene Hinders in his 79 Fairmont. Once again Gene came out on top as his 10.52 off of a 10.50 index covered Eric's breakout pass of a 14.16 on a 14.30 index.
Paul Burkland couldn't make it to the lanes to face Eril Lawson's small-block Chevy powered 280ZX due o a bad mix of large amounts of N20 not agreeing with his Mustangs crankshaft and rods...Erik mad a nice pass of a 12.58 off of his 12.53 on a solo shot to end the first round.
In the quarter-finals it was Phil Tenney over Steve Olson with a fantastic .008 reaction time the key. Jason Neshiem was able to overcome a bad reaction time to take the win over Erik Lawson. Bill Lehman took the light and the stripe over Tim Kroneman. Josh Knudsen had the best reaction time of the race that forced Gene Hinders to breakout trying to take the win.
Jason Neshiem and Phil Tenney had a close race to start the semi-finals with Jason's Mach 1 coming out on top. Josh Knudsen continued on into the fianl round when Bill Lehman's -.025 reation time ended his day of racing.
Jason's pass of 11.48 on his 11.45 index would've been good enough to win more than a few rounds of racing normally but Josh's .006 reaction was the key to his winning the race with a run of a 9.66 off of his 9.50 index.

Sunday's event wasn't quite as large but the racing was no less intense as Bill Lehman's 68 Mustang led the way with a 9.72 and Ed Stettin brought up the rear in his "back-up" Mercury Sable at a 16.04 (the new transmission for his 'lil coupe was stuck at a UPS depot).

The racing Sunday began with Mark Weerheim putting an end to Ed Stettin's day of racing...Ed's unfamiliarity with an automatic may have led to his downfall (his new manual transmission for his Mustang was stuck on a UPS truck somewhere) not to mention that Mark had a huge advantage off the line.
Jason Neshiem found the winning track once again with his Mach 1 as he outed MustangCentral's own Mat Peirce driving the classes classiest ride...a Lincoln LS. A substantial reaction time advantage allowed Jason to run an 11.62 off of his 11.35 index and still take the win.
Wade Poyner's -.004 foul ended the day for the classes only non-Ford entry of the day and Bill Lehman's 68 Mustang moved on to the next round running a 9.87 pass.
The 65 Falcon of Jim Winters Sr posted a nice .017 reaction time and ran a 12.37 off of his 12.29 index, which proved to be more than a late leaving Gene Hinders could overcome with his 79 Fairmont that brokeout with a run of 10.365 on a 10.41 index.
The Semi-Finals had Mark Weerheim taking the win over a red-lighting Jim Winters Sr and Jason Neshiem took the win when Bill Lehman couldn't quite run the number.
It was to be two runner-up finishes in one weekend for Jason as his 11.44 on a 11.35 index was no match for Mark's great run of an 11.53 on his 11.50 index and a nice .038 reaction time as well...
Congrats to both days Winners and Runner-Ups as well...the racing was excellent and we look forward to the series next race at Cordova in September as well as the season finale at Cedar Falls in October.

The weather at the first Midwest OpenComp Races wasn't all that cooperative and may have been the reason for the low turnout.
The April 16-17 event was held at Tri-State Raceway and day one turned out to be a very wet one after two qualifying sessions were held.
Saturday's race was a rain-out and there are no plans to reschedule nor were any points awarded for that days participants.
The weather for day two was much drier as well as warmer and the race went off without a hitch for the four entrants:

The Semi-Finals pitted the 2004 OpenComp Champion, Mark Weerheim, against the 2003 Champion, Gene Hinders, and it was another classic close race between these two and this time around it was Hinders who took the win.
After a weekend of thrashing on the big Torino Steve was welcomed into O/C racing by Eric Sloan (Top Twenty Finisher in '04) and his RIGHT-ON 14.100 on a 14.10 Index!!
This was a first in Midwest OpenComp race history I believe...a perfect run!
If Eric could have duplicated this feat in the finals he may well have had the "upset" of the day...neither Eric or Gene had a very good reation time in th finals and it came down to Gene and his "FlashBack" Fairmont being able to run closer to the index that was the deciding factor in Gene taking the win for the first race of the season.
One more "shout-out" to Matt Connelly who was running qualifying with us on Saturday but couldn't stick around for Sundays race...He had just gotten back from a year in Iraq and his buddies had finished getting his Mustang running for him while he was defending our freedoms. Nice to meet ya man!!! Hope you'll get some more opportunities to race with us in the future!

Next Event......June 17-18-19 at Cedar Falls Raceway.

Season Starts Soon!

Had the day off today so I went out and removed the fuel cell and the fulepump/filter from the car in preperation for the welding that will be done in a few weeks.
We're taking the car down to Doug at Quick Performance to "tweak" the rear suspension abit...the ladder bar crossmember hangs a little too low and we need to check and see if everything is still "square" too.
Our first T&T day at the track will be April 2nd if the weather is good...after we make a few shakedown passes we've got a few "theories" to try out before our first event, the Midwest Open Comp Series, at Tri-State Raceway on the 16th and 17th of April.
Feeling pretty good about our prospects this season....

PRI Show '05

I ran into one of our racing legend friends, Animal Jim, in one of the aisles at the PRI Show held at the Indianapolis Convention Center (news flash...He's driving a new Pontiac GTO on the street now)...but didn't see our other racing legend friend Arnie Beswick there at all, although I'm sure he was in attendance...but I was curious to see if he'd bought a new Mustang based on the shocking news I heard from Animal about the Pontiac in his own garage.
We sat in and watched the "Clevite Engine Building Challenge"...always fun to do that...I'd sure like to see FRPP (new name of Ford's Performance Parts) donate a block to our team to race with!!
We covered the show on Thursday and Friday all day and stayed for about half a day on Saturday. We caught up with alot of our manufacturer friends at the show from Quick Fuel Technology, Performance Automatic, Calico Coatings, Eagle Specialty Products, PBM Peformance, EngineWorks-Nickels Performance, Hal Lees Shocks, ChassisWorks, Ferrea Valves, SCE Gaskets, Atech...as well as seeing all of the new stuff and "tweaked" stuff that's coming out for the new season.
We also attended the NMCA-PRO and NMRA Racer Banquets on Friday evening, we didn't finish in the Top Ten this season with our abbreviated schedule but it was nice to see some of the guys that we've raced with the last couple of seasons get their jackets this time and catch up with the benchrace news.
It may take something just short of a miracle for us to be able to hit the NMCA-PRO events we're planning on getting to in the '05 season but we're going to try to get the job done and with the PRI Show moving to Orlando that's going to be a tough row to hoe for us next year too...if there's anyway we can get there we will be.

The car's put away for the winter and the plans for next year include some minor updates, nothing major scheduled at this point.
We've got some other info on our 2004 season at www.luvracin.com some race reports, some opinions, some ramblings....
The '05 season should be quite busy as we plan on running as many of the NMCA/PRO events as we can as we pursue points in that series. Our local activities will include two to four races of our own series, the ELIMN8U.COM Open Comp Races, which are held in between of the national points series...the NMCA/PRO series as well as the NMRA events.
The NMRA is an All-Ford based series and the NMCA is an All-Brands series. We decided to concentrate on the NMCA/PRO series because of the amount of travel involved...we could attend more races with the NMCA/PRO organization.
